Retractable belt stanchion calculator

Give us the metres of barrier, the spacing between posts and how the run ends. It returns how many stanchions you need, how many wall units and how many ropes. In metres, not feet.

System
m

Total length of the run, adding every lane if it is a serpentine.

m

Up to the belt length of the model. LIMIT reaches 3.7 m; some models go to 5 m. Leave some slack: a belt at its limit sags.

pcs

Corners and turns in the layout. Each one forces a post at that exact point.

Ends anchored to a wall

If the run starts or dies against a wall, a wall unit replaces the post.

How it is calculated

Spans = metres of barrier ÷ spacing, rounded up, plus one span per direction change. Nodes = spans + 1. Stanchions = nodes − wall-anchored ends. With rope, ropes = spans. It is a material estimate: setting it out on a drawing can move one post either way.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask about the calculation

Why is there always one extra post?

Because a barrier needs an anchor point at the start and another at the end. A run of six spans has seven nodes. That “plus one” is the most common miscalculation, and it is exactly the one that leaves the installation open at one end.

How do I count a serpentine queue?

Add up the metres of every lane and enter that as the total length, then count each turn in the direction-changes field. The calculator adds one post per turn, which is what the corner needs to hold the line.

Can I stretch the belt to its maximum?

You can, but it is not advisable. The further a belt is stretched, the more it sags and the less firm the line looks. Calculating with some slack against the model’s maximum leaves room to adjust on site without ordering more material.

What changes if I use rope instead of belt?

Two things. The spacing is no longer yours: the rope sets it, and in the Dclassic collection ropes are 1.5, 2 or 2.5 metres. And the rope is a separate item to order: as many ropes as spans.
